A press agency is an organisation that gathers news reports and sells them on to subscribing news institutions such as; newspapers, magazines, radio and television broadcasters.


An ideology is a set of opinions, beliefs or value system of a particular group. Dominant ideology are those held or accepted by the majority of people and these are very often reinforced by those in power, including the news media.


Mode of address - How a product engages and speaks to its target audience. Formal and informal addresses are present in many texts.
Peer to peer - Speaks to others as equals this is often an informal manner. Many gossip magazines use this  mode of address.
OK Magazine - Mainly gossip, peer to peer, no politics.

Teacher to pupil - This is instructional and the content is educating the audience. Very often this mode of address is used to educate and inform an audience.
EG: BBC - More facts and statistics ("A petition calling for the state visit to be cancelled has gathered more than 1.6 million signatures. A rival pro-visit petition has more than 70,000.") 
Parent to child - This is commanding and this mode of address is a literary device that shows a power structure.

Linguistic conventions - These are the words and phrases used as a part of a style or genre of journalism. For example magazine articles can be written using colloquial terms

Colloquial terms are used in ordinary or familiar conversation: not formal or literary.

Plenary - Mode of address is important as it allows for a journalistic articles to apeal to their intended/ specific audience.
